Always Kinky: VO5 vs Herbal Essences

As much as I love Hello Hydration by Herbal Essences I have been checking out other products. Before I reached down in my pocket for another $5 to replenish my Hello Hydration, I decided I would risk .88 cents on VO5 Split Ends Treatment Conditioner. Hello Hydration Herbal Essences

Thick and Nourishing, it is a staple for my hair. I love how it leaves my hair feeling soft and when I mix it with water it gives my hair a very light feeling as well. I have never been a fan of the heavy product look so with this a little goes a long way. I have not seen it less than $4.99 in Target, CVS, Walgreens but I did catch this product for $4.00 in Walmart.

Alberto V05 Split Ends Treatment Conditioner

Not as thick as the other product. Vo5 Leaves the hair feeling light and soft. It works really well on my hair for a Curly Twist Out or a Wash and Go because it dries faster than the other product.





The cost is what really makes the two products a toss up. Would I use 5 bottles of V05 before I use one bottle of Hello Hydration? I doubt it so if you are looking for a cheaper option V05 is a better choice. Overall: I think both of these products are worth trying out to see what is best for you! I like them both J

Always Kinky-UnbeWEAVEable

So I have embarked on a quite interesting field trip recently. I have entered the world of weave land. It has been quite nice actually and I would definitely do it again. The stylist told me I could keep it in for 2 months but I barely lasted 1 month. While I am Always Kinky everyone does not have to know this all of the time *cheese*!

Here are my pro's and con's

What type did I use?

Bohyme Brazilian ($90 and up depending on the length)

Was it worth it?

I think so, I wanted to be able to wash and treat the hair normally so it was pretty good quality.

Would you do it again?

Absolutely, I would definitely make it shorter next time but I really enjoyed the experience J.

About that, a couple of tweeps and I have noticed that there are different types of Natural Hair DIVAs!


 
I have found all types of #natural hair in my life. A conversation on Twitter led me to this blog today. I think there are 3 types of Natural Hair sistas out there. This is only from my own personal observations.

1. A Type- Learning a discovering natural hair, this type is asking questions and is very proud of their hair and and their own personal hair changes that have been made.
   
2. B Type- Most likely been natural hair for a while and respects all forms of hair care. This person may wear their hair in all types of styles: weaves, braids, afro, straight or twists. As long as its healthy to each their own.
   
3. C Type- Natural Hair Activist this type is so excited about their own hair accomplishments that they think it is the only way for someone to wear their hair. This type also looks down on hair that is different from their own hair choices.
   

This is not a rant or a complaint but a mere observation. There is also the under discovered issue between what is real natural hair and you can check out my You Tube channel for that episode ;-)

Always Kinky- Denman Brush

Out of all of the products that I have purchased to maintain my Natural Hair, the Denman Brush is my hands down MUST HAVE!

Why is this brush so special?

Before I can answer I feel the need to tell you about my detangle process.

1. Co-wash the hair cleaning the scalp only. (Washing is between the fingers and the scalp)

2. Apply more Conditioner (Hello Hydration)

3. Section the hair into 4 parts with fingers.

4. Use the Denman Brush to detangle from the tips to the roots.

5. Twist immediately after each section.

6. Undo the twists to let the hair air dry.

I have been Natural my entire life and my college roommates would always tease me after I combed my hair out because of the huge pile of hair left over when I was done combing. (At least I had the common sense to comb it while wet back then)

In the time that I have bought the Denman Brush I have not had huge piles of hair. Also my 1 year old baby (who hates to sit still) does not even notice when I am detangling her hair. I was sold after this experience! I purchased my brush at Sally’s but there is an international site (Denman)
Here is a “run down” on the types of Denman brushes. My hair works well with the D3 from Sally’s.

Always Kinky: Curly Twist Out

This style is definately a go to style without using heat. I made a You-Tube about how to style heat damaged  to hide the straighties. Check it out!.

Step 1. Co Wash with Hello Hydration (leave a little in to detangle)

Step 2. Let the hair dry 90%

Step 3. Seperate the hair to 5 sections

Step 4. Two strand twist and curl with "flexi-rod" type curler

Step 5. Set until dry (over night)

Step 6. Take out and finger lift to your liking (the bigger the better)

Always Kinky: Hair Typing

Giving your hair a grade? I have been reading about the system on hair typing and I feel the need to weigh in on this issue. I have mixed feelings about this particular issue. On one end I feel like it can be useful in social/beauty networking where you don’t really get to compare hair for styling purposes. For example I see a style I like and think I may be able to rock it but I am not so sure if my curls would work. I guess this particular time would be fine to ask “What is your hair type?” On the other hand I feel like black women especially get so caught up in comparing and feeling inferior when it comes to hair sometimes I feel it may be best just to let each person figure it out themselves. Even in my experience as a life-long #naturalhair chick, my hair has gone thorough changes and if I did not know my hair, it would have been difficult to make the necessary adjustments. If you would like to know more about hair typing check it out. By the way I think I am 3C and 4A. In case you cared *smiles*

Always Kinky: Creme Moisturizer

I have been using this product in my hair for the last week. I must say while the Jheri Alert was sounding, I ignored the feeling and bought it anyway. I am happy that I did! I used it as a moisturizer for my blow out and avoided all chances of Jheri Madness. It kept my hair smooth and sleek after setting my curls with flexirods.
