Breast Cancer Awareness!!

It has been a very long time since I have posted. Meaning I did not finish my 365 days of hair. There is a very god reason. I did a Big Chop for Breast Cancer. Ok so that is not the main reason, but it is the reason that I have begun blogging again. Last year my sister (who is 18 months older than me) battled Breast Cancer. Our family took a huge blow and went into action! My sister who is also an occasional natural hair diva underwent chemotherapy and radiation that ended in August. The ladies in my family decided to cut our hair. It was very liberating especially because I had become so consumed with products and styles that having hair was never on my mind. I love my hair short and am now growing it back at the request of my sister. We are all in this together :-) Here are a few pictures from the last year.

Always Kinky 365: Day 40 Mini- Twist

Here is a micro twist set I did on the munchkin. Her hair is getting so long. Luckily she is used to me hair wrestling so she doesn't put up a fight anymore :-)

Always Kinky 365: Day 39

Roller Set:
  1. Co-wash with Giovanni TTTT Conditioner.
  2. Moisturize and protect with Coconut Oil.
  3. Using med (back of head) and large (top of head) magnetic rollers
  4. Apply small amounts of Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding to the ends before rolling hair.
  5. Let the hair dry overnight (not very comfortable to sleep in but I don't want to apply heat) or sit under a dryer.
  6. Finger comb to your liking (I prefer a "fluffier" look)
Here are the results:

Miss Jessie's Stretch Silkening Creme

So I finally broke down and ordered this product to give it a try. For my full review check out my video. To get the look I ended up with I used the following instructions.

Wash and condition hair.
Apply Miss Jessie's Stretch Silkening Creme while wet.
Shingle the product through the hair and let it dry.
Spray mist on the hair after it has dried curly.
Bantu knot the hair in 6 pieces.
Let the hair dry
Finger fluff and go! Here are the results....

Always Kinky 365: Day 37

She is getting so much better at sitting still while I work the magic. I tried this style again the next week and it was a better outcome. If ths keeps up we will graduate to cornrows. These are flat twists and box twists in the back.

Always Kinky 365: Day 36

This was the first day that I tried Ecco Styler Gel. I will be doing a video about the wash n go. But in this picture I just put a little bit on my edges to see how it worked and my hair did not budge for 2 days! I had to wash it out and try again to make sure it wasnt something else. I love the stuff!

Always Kinky 365: Day 35

Meet my niece! She is a new unloc'd baby. After 4 years of beautiful locs, she decided to follow in her Aunties' footsteps and take them out. Her she has a cornrowed Fro Hawk. It was so cute I had to feature her!

Always Kinky 365: Day 34 Flat Twist Out (day 3)

I probably could have stretched the style but this was the last day. Next time I will pick it out so that it could be a crazy afro type. Stay Tuned!

Always Kinky 365: Day 33 Flat Twist Out (day 2)

I applied Coconut oil on the ends without rustling the hair to much and wrapped the hair in a G-Wrap. When I woke up the hair was not oily but refreshed;-)

Always Kinky 365: Day 32 Flat Twist Out

This is my first day using the Flat Twist Out Method. The only products used were Giovanni Conditioner and Coconut Oil (surprise). This style could have lasted a full week but as you can see it is not very BIG! I love big hair so I had to change it up for the Weekend in South Beach!

Always Kinky 365: Day 31

I rolled the front of my hair (the bang area) and pulled the rest to the side. Knotted the extra hair and secured with a bobby pin. The goal was to keep it cool for the heat...Accomplished!

Oh and the Dress was from some random store in Ft. Lauderdale...Perfect for the summer!

Always Kinky 365: Day 30 Bunning

As I am trying to deal with this heat and resist the Big Chop, I find myself really relying on this go-to style. It is sleek, cool and sophisticated. I have also been doing some research on the "Bunning" Phenomenon. (Post to come later). I need to find a way to make the bun not as tight while holding all of the pieces in the hair bow. Happy Weekend!

Always Kinky 365: Day 29

I got this shirt FOR FREE at the Natural Hair Show in ATL. One day I'll actually purchase some products but until then I can show support!
